A walk in the garden

I’m up having a sleepless night at the end of the year, contemplating the health problems of elder loved ones, trying to make peace with the reality of late life stages. A cup of hot chamomile tea sits on the desk, and in the garden sit several pots of small evergreens waiting for homes in the earth. The ground is still soft enough to dig, before hard cold sets in.

We’ve been planting this garden for 11 summers now, and have moved into using more evergreens in a variety of color, texture, and shape. These are the architectural f0undation around which the perennials dance in summer, providing color and shelter when those same perennials sleep.

This series of posts will walk you through the year, with blooms by month. The years will form a mosaic that becomes richer as time passes. We continue to learn about what plants work where, and whom they feed. Come along and enjoy the path with us.
